Libya’s Haftar meets Sisi ahead of unity government return to Tripoli

Libya’s renegade General Khalifa Haftar will meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi in Cairo, Egypt, today to discuss the latest developments in Libya, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported Libyan political sources saying.

According to the sources, Haftar is scheduled to meet the head of the Egyptian intelligence service, Major General Khaled Fawzi, to discuss the UN-backed Government of National Accord led by Fayez Al-Sarraj.

The visit comes at a time when a senior political source said that unknown assailants have assassinated Al-Sarraj’s brother, west of Tripoli, days after Al-Sarraj announced that his unity government will move to Tripoli from Tunisia.

Meanwhile, a number of members of the Council of Elders have rejected Al-Sarraj’s government saying there is no consensus between the various Libyan groups.
