At least 18 Egyptian policemen have been killed, with three others wounded, in three simultaneous attacks in Northern Sinai, Felesteen.ps reported on Monday. The men, including senior officers, were attacked in their vehicles on the highway between Beer Al-Abded and El-Arish.

Local security sources said that armed militants planted three roadside devices that exploded simultaneously when three police vehicles drew alongside. The militants then exchanged fire with soldiers in an effort to prevent ambulances from reaching the casualties.

The death toll is expected to rise, added the sources.
