Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said yesterday that Saudi Arabia has dismissed its Consul General to Istanbul Mohammed Al-Otaibi following a phone call he had with King Salman Bin Abdulaziz a few days after Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed inside his country’s consulate in Istanbul.
“The Consul is not efficient and I have told King Salman of this. A day later, the Consul General was relieved of his duties and returned to his country,” the Turkish president told the parliament in Ankara.
Al-Otaibi returned to Saudi last week following revelations that Khashoggi was killed in the consulate. Turkish investigators searched his home and the consulate building in a n effort to find Khashoggi’s remains and details surrounding his death.
