In a boost to Algeria’s security, 2018 was the first year in nearly three decades where the country experience no major “terrorist” acts.
A report prepared by the Anadolu Agency, said the last relatively major terrorist attack in Algeria took place in August 2017 when a suicide bomber attacked a police station in the city of Tiaret, 300 kilometres southwest of the capital.
Since then, 16 months have passed without a major terrorist attack, with the exception of random clashes in the mountainous areas between military and terrorist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

In 1992; a political and security crisis erupted in Algeria between the regime and Islamic and jihadist militant groups which emerged after the army cancelled parliamentary elections won by the Islamic Salvation Front.
