Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan said on Tuesday that he did not receive a response to the ceasefire initiative proposed by his country from Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The minister made his comment during a joint press conference with his Austrian counterpart.
Bin Farhan claimed that the Houthis insist on escalation in Yemen. He called for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis and an end to the war in Saudi Arabia’s southern neighbour.
For seven years, Yemen has been witnessing violent war between pro-Iran Houthi rebels and the Yemeni army. The minister added that he hopes his country’s international partners will monitor Iran’s activities.
